To hold a private discussion with more than one person, you could ask two or three people to join you in a channel name of your choosing(it's recommended that you use your nick for temporary channels):
/join #temp1234mynick
...invite others to come and see by sending them a /msg or:
/invite ''nicksomenick''
...have the private discussion...
/leave
