===Present:===
Peter Callaghan
===SHORT-TERM GOALS:===
Switch to CENTOS for OPS235 and OPS335 starting for the Winter 2014 semester. Reasons for this is that seems to be many "Leading Edge" features in Fedora that lead to student frustration, and a number of instructors had problems with stable release of Fedora 19. Suggestion was made to try to update distribution every 2 years, with sufficient "lead-time" to test-out and update labs at least one semester prior to newer distribution roll-out. Experience indicates frustration when trying to work with most recent stable release (eg. Fedora 19, but true with most rollouts of Operating Systems).
===LONGER-TERM GOALS:===
CNS/CTY is proceeding with the review process. Report sent for approval - pending acceptance or feedback. No "official" changes in terms of long-term curriculum should be implemented until this review process "plays out". On the other hand, good to be aware of concerns (window of opportunity) to discuss to be prepared when longer-term changes (improvements) are required.
===Concerns / Opportunities:===
1. Chris mentioned from his perspective many of the CNS/CTY graduates in CDOT that move into industry notice "delta" between course concepts and "real world" practice of Linux admin in terms of Enterprise computing (clusters as opposed to single machines).
