Westminster Computer Lab Rules


All computer lab supervisors / participants must follow the rules stated below:


  • Any person that wants to use the computer lab must first attend an AVIT Computer Lab training session.
  • Any persons not deemed as an adult, must be accompanied by one at all times while in the lab.
  • No food or drink shall be permitted in the lab.
  • No attempt shall be made to access, modify or remove hardware or software in the lab.
  • Do not use any other markers on the “White Board” other than those designed for use with it.
  • You are responsible for any materials or devices you bring into the lab (eg. USB stick)
  • You may not connect any external devices to the lab hardware without authorization from AVIT. This restriction does not restrict the use of normal storage devices such as USB sticks, CDs, DVDs or SD cards.
  • Only adults trained in lab procedures are permitted to start up and shut down the system and this message MUST be made clear to lab participants before starting a session. They will be the sole operators for peripherals in the lab such as the printer and projector.
  • Vandalism and graffiti will be repaired at the expense of the group using the lab … So Check the lab before opening and closing and report any damage found!
  • Internet use will adhere to the “Rules and restrictions for Internet use” section.
  • Consumable items used in the lab such as Paper, printer ink, etc will be charged out to the user group according to the “Lab supply fees schedule”.
  • Respectful behaviour and language is Expected at all times from all participants!
  • The adult in charge of the group session will be responsible for ensuring that:
  • The lab is left neat and tidy for the next users.
  • All equipment is properly shut down.
  • Blinds are closed.
  • Lights are turned off.
  • The lab is securely locked up before leaving.
  • Any damages or graffiti found during their stay are reported to AVIT


FYI: In addition to the above stated rules, users should also view the Computer Lab's Acceptable Use Policy. This policy will posted when the Acceptable Use Policy has been created. Upon creation of this policy, a start-up dialog box will appear with the Acceptable Use Policy for each computer user to agree to in order to use that account.
