Transition from Single to Multi-Core
The transition from single to multi-core systems came from the need to address the limitations of manufacturing technologies for single-core systems. Single-core systems suffered by several limiting factors including:
* individual transistor gate size** multiple transistors combined together in a certain organized structure form logic gates: AND, OR, NOT, NOR, XOR, XNOR, NAND*** logic gates are the foundation of all integrated circuits (ICs) and enable different complexities of logic functions to be performed
* physical limits in the design of integrated circuits which caused significant heat dissipation
* synchronization issues with coherency of data.
