FUDCon Blacksburg 2012
FUDCon Blacksburg 2012
A FUDCon for North America will be held January 13-15, 2012, in Blacksburg VA. It is anticipated that a group of Seneca faculty and students will attend.
What is a FUDCon?
FUDCon is the Fedora Users and Developers Conference. These events are held on a regional basis around the world to enable Fedora developers, contributors, and users to meet face-to-face, to learn, to plan, and to hack.
FUDCons generally include three elements: a barcamp (unconference), hackfests, and a social night (FUDPub).
Barcamp
A barcamp is an "unconference" -- a type of conference planned dynamically, on the day of the event. Typically, the barcamp starts with a session where anyone who wishes to speak lines up and is given a short time (15 seconds) to "pitch" their talk. The names of the talks are written on sheets of paper which are then taped to a wall; after the pitches, attendees checkmark the sheets to indicate which talks they most want to attend. Talks with no (or very few) checkmarks may be cancelled, or talks with few checkmarks which are on related topics may be combined. The sheets are then arranged to create the schedule for the day, with time slots as rows and rooms as columns. The conference then proceeds according to the schedule.
Hackfests
Fedora developers and contributors rarely get to work face-to-face. The hackfest sessions provide an opportunity for members of the Fedora community to work together in person on code, tests, packaging, documentation, marketing, planning, and many other activities. Hackfests may take the form of consultations, or writing sessions (code or documentation), or tutorials.
FUDPub
FUDCon's social evening, known as FUDPub, is an opportunity for Fedora community members to let their hair down and enjoy some fun with friends. FUDPubs always include food, and may also include pool, bowling, karaoke, or other activities.
FUDCon Blacksburg 2012
FUDCon Blacksburg will be held at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA from January 13-15, 2012. Details of this event may be found on the Fedora wiki.
