Summer 2011 Staffing Needs

FeralSpace

Open Source Mobile Java Developer

  • Location: Seneca@York Center for Development of Open Technology
  • Number of positions: 3

Located in the Office of Research and Innovation, Seneca’s Centre for Open Technology seeks to fill three co-op positions during the spring/summer of 2011.

The project will be to develop and ship a mobile Java application for the Blackberry, and involves Mozilla’s web technologies. We are looking for candidates who can ship software they’re proud of on a deadline, working closely with team members and mentors at both Seneca and Mozilla. Java experience is a must-have, Eclipse and mobile development experience are nice-to-haves. Solid communication skills and a familiarity with the communication tools around open source development (source control, issue tracking, irc) are extremely important.

Priority will be given to candidates who have shown skill and enthusiasm for open source and mobile development, J2ME and working well as part of a team.

Open Source Interface Developer

  • Location: Seneca@York Center for Development of Open Technology
  • Number of positions: 1

Located in the Office of Research and Innovation, Seneca’s Centre for Open Technology seeks to fill one co-op position during the spring/summer of 2011.

This position will involve developing the front-end of a mobile Java application for the Blackberry, and assist with the customization of a related hosted-service We are looking for candidates who can ship software they’re proud of on a deadline, working closely with team members and mentors at both Seneca and Mozilla. Experience developing user interfaces with Java and modern web standards (HTML+CSS) are must-haves. Mobile-device interface development experience, a portfolio of prior work and familiarity with Photoshop and/or GIMP are nice-to-haves. Solid communication skills and a familiarity with the communication tools around open source development (source control, issue tracking, irc) are extremely important.

Priority will be given to candidates who have shown skill and enthusiasm for open source and user-interface development, graphic design and and working well as part of a team.

Open Source Developer

Development of Open Technology (CDOT) seeks to fill three co-op positions during the summer of 2011. The positions are for open source developers, with a focus on Eclipse, Java, Enterprise and Open Web technologies. These positions are being funded through a Seneca CDOT NSERC grant as well as industry partners.

We seek candidates who have a passion for Eclipse, Java, Enterprise Web technologies and need to continue extending and enhancing these technologies. Successful candidates will work on a number of open technologies, designing and developing applications, fixing bugs, adding new features to existing applications, and undertaking various research projects.

Priority will be given to candidates possessing skills in open source and web development, including:

  • Java
  • Eclipse
  • Java EE, Web Services
  • HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Open Source Communication Tools (wikis, irc, bugzilla)


Experience with some of the following would be an asset:

  • Mobile Programming such as BlackBerry and/or Android
  • Design Patterns
  • Open Service Gateway interface (OSGi)

Mozilla

Open Web Developer

  • Location: Seneca@York, Centre for Development of Open Technology
  • Number of Positions: 2

Located in the Office of Research and Innovation, Seneca's Centre for Development of Open Technology (CDOT) seeks to fill two co-op positions during the summer of 2011. The positions are for open web developers, with a focus on HTML5 video and canvas, and JavaScript libraries. These positions are being funded through a Seneca CDOT NSERC grant as well as industry partners.

We seek candidates who have a passion for the open web, and in advancing the technologies available to web developers. Successful candidates will work on various open source JavaScript libraries maintained by the Centre, developing code, fixing bugs, adding new features, interacting with the Mozilla open source community, and undertaking various research projects.

Priority will be given to candidates possessing skills in open source and web development, including:

  • JavaScript
  • HTML5 video, audio, canvas
  • JSON, XML, CSS, DOM
  • Open Source Communication Tools (wikis, irc, lighthouse)
  • Git and Github

Experience with some of the following would be an asset:

  • WebGL
  • Mozilla Firefox internals
  • Video editing tools
