Volatile storage holds data only as long as power is applied -- data is lost when power is cut.

Examples of volatile storage:

  • Random Access Memory (dynamic or static RAM)

Examples of non-volatile storage:

  • Flash memory
  • Disk drives
  • Magnetic tape
