The Eclipse Project is in fact a collection of open source projects built on the Equinox OSGi run-time. The Eclipse projects are hosted by Eclipse Foundation which is a not-for-profit, member supported corporation.
Eclipse is also an open source community whose projects are focused on building an open development platform comprised of extensible frameworks, tools and runtimes for building, deploying and managing software across the lifecycle. Eclipse software is written in Java and can be executed on a wide variety of systems.
A number of Seneca students and faculty are involved with the Eclipse Project, and some courses in the Seneca School of Computer Studies use the Eclipse as an IDE tool. Students in the Eclipse Open source courses are working alongside Seneca professor Jordan Anastasiade within the Eclipse community on Eclipse WTP (Web Platform Tools). This work is centered in the OSD600 and DPS909 courses. Some of their activity is shown here. IBM is one of the key sponsors of Eclipse and is providing grant funding during the 2008-2009 academic year to support student participation in the Eclipse community.
To view Eclipse projects taking place within CDOT, see the Project List Eclipse WTP (Winter 2009). Before you start any work, please read this basic tutorial for working with Eclipse to build ... Eclipse-WTP
