[[SBR600|This course]] requires you to have your own Fedora installation on a 32- or 64-bit PC system. You can install it in any of three locations:

# On a laptop. You can choose whether to install it as the only operating system, as part of a multi-boot configuration, or install it in a virtual machine using software such as [http://www.virtualbox.org/ Virtual Box], [http://vmware.com VMWare], or [http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Main_Page KVM].

# On a removable disk pack (the same type used in other CTY courses, for use in the Open Lab or the SBR600 lab).

# On a computer you own at home (or another location), as long as that system is accessible to you via [[SSH]] from Seneca.

It is recommended that you have at least 15GB available for the installation.

If you do not already have a current version of Fedora installed on a suitable system:

# Obtain the [http://get.fedoraproject.org Fedora installation image]. If you are downloading at Seneca, the [http://belmont.senecac.on.ca/ Belmont mirror] is probably the fastest place to get an image. If you have a 64-bit system, the 64-bit version is recommended.

# Install it on your system. No special installation options are required, but follow appropriate system administration practices.

# Ensure that your system is fully up-to-date (<code>yum update</code>).
