In order to view the type hierarchy of a variable in eclipse, select the variable and press F4, or right click to open the edit menu and then select "Open Type Hierarchy". Hierarchy1.jpg

The type hierarchy view will open and show the type hierarchy for that variable. Hierarchy2.jpg
